He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. The songs he’s written are considered standards. Johnny Cash called him “my favorite songwriter.” Kris Kristofferson said “he’s as real a writer as Hemingway” and Willie Nelson said “Billy Joe Shaver may be the best songwriter alive today.” Some of the greatest artists have performed his songs and they include Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, George Jones, the Allman Brothers Band, Waylon Jennings and more. He’s a prolific performer and his recordings have gained great acclaim.
