Amanda Colleen Williams is a woman who wears a lot of hats. To some she’s known for writing songs recorded by heavyweights like George Jones and Garth Brooks, but there’s the whole other side to this storyteller, singer and songwriter. And that’s not even all of her hats.

Amanda Colleen Williams is a one-of-a-kind performer

But, it’s worth mentioning Amanda Colleen Williams, the show woman. I first witnessed her on stage in Atlanta, Georgia at the famed music venue Smith’s Olde Bar. There’s that thing some performers have—every eye and ear was tuned to her. Years later, Amanda Colleen Williams conceptualized, wrote and performed her one-woman show: “A Story of Love: Through Poetry and Music.” And it very much tells a complete story.

You can watch the audio/visual review including exclusive video performance and interview.

“A Story of Love” has been performed by Amanda Colleen Williams internationally

Williams has brought her performances of “A Story of Love” to a number of places: from Cluj Napoca, Romania to her artist residence at 7695 in Nashville, Tennessee. I first learned about “A Story of Love” in advance of her performance at the Key West Theater in Key West, Florida. She joined me to talk about it, but also to perform a little sample from the show.

I saw “A Story of Love” in Nashville, Tennessee

I had the chance to see Amanda Colleen Williams in her off-Broadway one-woman musical theatre experience “A Story of Love” at The 7695, a cozy, idyllic live event venue. Taylor Lewis, a Texas troubadour, got the evening warmed up, clearly a seasoned pro.

Then it was time for “A Story of Love.” From the very start, Amanda lets you know that it’s going to be a personal experience. She communicates directly with the spectators. It feels like she is somehow a part of the audience while still being the star.

The show has elements of cabaret

To quote another famous lyric: “Moonlight and love songs, never out of date.” Songs of love have been around forever and aren’t likely to go anywhere soon. So, you may question if the idea of doing a musical experience all about love is a bit obvious. However, witnessing “A Story of Love,” felt like an entirely new event—similar to cabaret shows, but in a class of its own.

“A Story of Love” would be great for New York City audiences

I feel“A Story of Love,” would go over great in New York City, at places like 54 Below or the Café Carlyle. Amanda Colleen Williams’ show could touch people anywhere.

“A Story of Love,” is Amanda Colleen Williams earnest statement about love, and a great time. She weaves spoken word in and out of original songs to create a live event you won’t forget. Immediately after witnessing the approximately 35 minute show, I knew I wanted to see the show again.

“A Story of Love” is also available on streaming services and on CD

It’s worth commenting on the songs. They’ll get in your head and it’s only natural you’ll want to hear them again. “Love’s Been Looking” is a great one, as is “Muse (That’s Just Your Way),” that opens the show. “A Story of Love” is available on Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify or on CD.

I recommend “A Story of Love.”

I look forward to more people getting to see the performance. If you’ve seen the show, please leave a comment and tell me what you think. I’d love to hear from you.
