A Detroit, Michigan native, his journey into the public sphere began as a journalist and jazz critic. David Was has had a big mark in the music world not just with his band, but also as a producer. He’s worked with the likes of Bob Dylan, Mel Tormé, Iggy Pop, Ricky Lee Jones, Roy Orbison and many others. Going back to the journalism, under his given name of David Weiss, his byline has appeared in Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone and Newsweek.
